Written July 2024 - This song was inspired by Heather Dale's "One of Us", as a similar story occurred to me in my first event of the SCA, though instead of being about a fighter, it was about a bard... three bards to be exact: Miura Suzume, Staggmara IngenMurchú, Klodiya Del'Krowa at the Coronation of their majesties, King Logan the Gardener and Queen Bronach. It was my first SCA event, nervously joining the bardic circle after being invited by them with an eye only to spectate. Soon though, listening to their songs, the passion, the emotion and the joy, coupled with the encouragement by them that I could join in a safe-space made it such that I sang that night as well, in the first bardic circle I had ever experienced, and my love of bardic performance immediately took off from there.
At coronation, grand and bright,
Where banners flew in golden light,
I met three maids with spirits fair,
Like beacons in the royal glare.
Their voices sang a melody,
Tunes that set my spirit free,
With every word, my heart would swell,
In their songs, my soul did dwell.
Chorus:
Oh, sweet strangers, now my friends,
Within your light, my path did bend,
With all your melodies, I found my way,
To be a minstrel, night and day.
In music shared, our friendship grew,
A bond of notes, both old and new,
Their melodies, they lit my fire,
In harmony, our spirits higher.
With newfound courage, heart ablaze,
I took to paths, through nights and days,
Their inspiration, pure and strong,
Turned timid whispers into song.
Chorus:
With every chance I get to sing,
Their spirit’s there in everything,
Our laughter echoes in my tune,
From dawn's first light to midnight’s moon.
Their memory lives in every line,
A guiding light, a spark divine,
A minstrel’s path, a life unplanned,
Began that day by their sweet hands.
Chorus:
So here I stand, a minstrel true,
With my voice inspired by you,
Oh, sweet strangers, wherever you be,
Know your songs still live in me.
